Finding the best muscle building supplement is not as difficult as it might seem.  There are thousands of voices out there claiming one thing or another, but if you just look to nature you will find that protein is the key to effective muscle building.  Many people get confused at this point because there are so many protein shakes, pills and powders out there.  I am going to try to help you find the truth about protein.

First of all, it is not actually necessary to consume proteins through supplements.  That’s right you don’t need protein pills.  You can get plenty of protein naturally through a proper, well rounded diet.  Much of the protein mania we experience is due to the heavy marketing of the supplement industry.  Protein supplements can help you build muscle but you have to be careful not to over do it or that may have negative results on your health,  muscle building potential and getting rid of fat.

I was fortunate to come across the book, “How much Protein” by Brad Pilon - Former supplement developer and research scientist.

After years of following the protein supplement “facts”, he actually did some research and found we were being lied to and mislead about protein and how it effectively builds muscle.

A Truth About Protein

One common misconception that most people have is that the more protein you eat,
the more muscle you’ll build. Actually, you need to *work* the muscle, over load it, so
to speak, by regularly increasing the workload, or amount of weight you are lifting, to
build strength. The exercise shreds and breaks down the muscle fibers, and the
protein *helps* to repair and rebuild the fibers. Complete protein, amino acids, help
the body to build and repair body tissues, including muscles, ligaments, and
tendons.  Protein is also important for the synthesis of hormones, enzymes, and
antibodies, as well as for fluid transport and energy—to a certain degree. Contrary to
popular belief, protein is not a primary source of energy, unless you do not consume
enough calories or carbohydrates.  It is only then that protein is broken down and
used for energy instead of being used for it’s intended jobs. Thus, it is one of the
main reasons that a low carb/high protein diet is unsafe, unhealthy, and destined for
failure in the long run.
